‘What creature walks on four legs in the morning, two legs in the afternoon, and three in the evening?’

The answer to this riddle is "man."

In the morning of one's life, which represents childhood, a person crawls on all fours like a baby. In the afternoon of one's life, which represents adulthood, a person walks on two legs. And in the evening of one's life, which represents old age, a person walks with the aid of a cane, which is considered a third leg.

This riddle is often associated with the myth of Oedipus, as he famously answered it correctly and thus solved the riddle of the Sphinx, which was plaguing the city of Thebes.
