National Independence Day

The National Independence Day is one of the popular celebrations in Vietnam. This celebration falls on September 2nd. It is the time when people celebrate the independence day of Vietnam. People parade in the street, visit historical places. I like this day very much. It helps me remember the past history of our nation and I feel proud of our nation.

Teacher's Day

Teacher's Day is one of the popular celebrations in Vietnam. This celebration falls on November 20th. It is the time when students show their love and respect to the teachers. Students give flowers and best wishes to their teachers. I like this day very much because I have an opportunity to visit my teachers.

Women's Day

Women's Day is one of the popular celebrations in Vietnam and in the world. This celebration falls on March 8th. It is the time when people celebrate the equality between men and women. Family members and friends give flowers and gifts to women. I like this day because it is an occasion for people to show love to the women.

Mother’s Day

It was a delight to me when I attended the celebration of last Mother's Day at my cousin's house. This special day falls on the second Sunday of May every year. This celebration provides the children with a special occasion to express their love and filial piety to their mother. This day is also the birthday of my cousin's mother. On that day, my cousin bought a special present for his mother, a nice shawl. Moreover, he had special dinner with his mother's favourite foods and with a cake, of course. Before the meal, his mother, he with all members of the family - his wife and children - gathered around the dinner table. We all sang ''Happy Birthday" to her. When the song finished, he and his wife gave the present to his mother and kissed her. Then his mother cut the cake. How touching this scene was! And I felt an indescribable feeling overwhelming my mind. This scene reminded me of my mother. I think this celebration should be observed by every child nationwide.

Mid- Autumn Festival

In Viet Nam the Mid- Autumn Festival, also referred as Tet Trung Thu, is one of the two most celebrated festivals to current date. The Mid-Autumn Festival dates back over 15,000 years ago, and is traditionally held on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. A Vietnamese folklore indicates that the festival came about as a way for parents to make up lost time, showing love and appreciation to their children after the harvest season. Appropriately, the Mid-Autumn Festival is also called the Children's Festival. Trung-Thu activities are often centred around children so that they can participate in a candlelit lantern procession at dawn. Lanterns represent brightness while the procession symbolizes success in school. Vietnamese markets sell a variety of lanterns, but the most popular children's lantern is the star lantern. Other children's activities include arts and crafts in which children make face masks and lanterns. Children also perform traditional Vietnamese dances and participate in contests for prizes and scholarships. Unicorn dancers are also very popular in Trung-Thu festivities. In addition, Vietnamese parents tell their children fairy tales and serve mooncakes and other special treats under the silvery moon. I like the festival very much because it is an opportunity for me to gather with my family and friends to enjoy the moonlight and many special refreshments.
